Parents Comments

Dear Happy Jays,
Our last day after 7 and a half years! Thank you for all that you have done ...

Welcome to our York Nursery

We chose Clifton Moor as the place for our children’s nursery with the needs of local people and local employers in mind. There is a shortage of good quality childcare facilities and very often parents have little or no choice over having to take whatever is available to them.

So we decided to create a local high quality nursery providing a safe, secure and clean environment with excellent indoor and outdoor play facilities staffed by well-qualified and caring people. We opened for business in September 2000.

Our Nursery Facility

Our nursery at Clifton Moor is a purpose built and designed facility. This enables it to be the finest childcare centre of its kind and more importantly, it provides a warm, happy, safe and caring environment for your child in the most convenient of locations.

The facility is a modern single storey building with its own outside secure play areas including a natural garden with a vegetable patch and ample car parking spaces for parents bringing or collecting their children. A lot of thought and careful planning has gone into the design based on our own operating experience and as a result it is a first class facility.

There are separate sections for children of differing ages together with a dining room and kitchen facilities as well as separate toilets for children and staff, office and meeting room space. We now have a fully equipped potakabin in the nursery grounds which is for the use of our older pre schoolers to help prepare for school.

The Centre is registered with Ofsted and meets all the necessary environmental health, fire and health and safety requirements needed in a daycare facility.

We received an 'Outstanding' in our inspection... "Staff have an outstanding knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Staff are extremely skilled in using a wide range of different learning strategies to promote children's development."

York ManagerCACHE Diploma level 3, NVQ level 3 Management. Currently studying Level 5, SENCO, and Safeguarding children person. Working with 0-5 yr children for 10 years. At Happy Jays since opened in August 2000, taken promotions from Nursery Nurse to Supervisor then Deputy and promoted to manager in 2005. Own son attends nursery.

Within the nursery children are cared for in their individual rooms as follows:

Our two baby play rooms are well-equipped with plenty of space for rolling, crawling and learning to walk and provide a relaxed but stimulating environment. A great deal of time is spent giving babies loving care and attention with plenty of cuddles. The baby rooms comprise Baby 1 (3-13 months) and Baby 2 (13-20 months).

Our staff hold various qualifications ranging from degrees and diplomas to Level 2 in all aspects of childcare management. In addition, all staff pursue an ongoing training programme covering areas such as Child Safeguarding, Learning through Play, First Aid and Health and Safety. All our staff follow the Happy Jays Code of Practice which governs the way we operate.

We are all friendly, caring and are only too happy to help both parents and children. We work with the children to develop their creativity, imagination and language skills in a meaningful way. This is achieved through a wide range of structured activities in accordance with the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and with our own standards of good childcare practice.

All our meals are prepared freshly on the premises by our qualified cook and provide a balanced nutritional healthy diet for all children, with the babies receiving their first pureed fruit and vegetable solid foods when they are ready to do so.

Happy Jays is open from 7.45am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday. We are open all year round excluding bank and public holidays. For parents who need to be early starters you may leave your child with us from 7.30am onwards each day, with the opportunity of an early breakfast.
