Welcome to our Harrogate Setting Sail Nursery

Setting Sail Nursery became part of the Happy Jays group in September 2013 and has been a nursery for the past 15 years. The facility is ideally situated close to the town centre and within easy reach of surrounding villages and residential areas. Over the years Setting Sail has built a reputation for providing top quality care and continues to do so.

Who we are

Happy Jays Ltd is a privately owned company and we opened our first nursery in Boroughbridge in September 1996. We then opened our second nursery in York in September 2000 and our third at Scarborough in 2005. In January 2006 we purchased Carlinghow Hall Nursery in Batley.

We are a registered daycare provider by Ofsted and our mission is to provide the best quality childcare available for children from 3 months old up to 5 years of age. We are an Investors in People company – having first achieved this in 1999 and then again in 2002, 2005, 2008 and 2011 - and we are the first nursery group of our size in the UK to have done this.

What We Offer: Premises

Our nursery at Setting Sail is a large detached building with extensive outdoor play facilities, equipment and gardens. This combination provides children with a variety of resources both indoors and outdoors in which to learn and flourish and more importantly, it provides a warm, happy, safe and caring environment for your children in the most convenient of locations.

There are separate sections for children of differing ages together with a dining room and kitchen facilities as well as separate toilets for children and staff, office and meeting room space.

The Centre is registered with Ofsted and conforms with all the necessary environmental health, fire and health and safety requirements in connection with our operation as a daycare facility.

Within the Centre children are cared for on the following basis:

Babies

Our babies section is well-equipped with plenty of space for rolling, crawling and learning to walk and provides a relaxed but stimulating environment. A great deal of time is spent giving babies loving care and attention with plenty of cuddles.

Our staff hold various qualifications ranging from degrees to Level 2 in all aspects of childcare management. In addition, all staff pursue an ongoing training programme covering areas such as Child Protection, Learning through Play, First Aid and Health and Safety. We are all friendly, caring and are only too happy to help both parents and children. All our staff abide by the Happy Jays Code of Practice which governs the way we operate and a copy is attached as an appendix to this brochure.

We work with the children to develop their creativity, imagination and language skills in a meaningful way. This is achieved through a wide range of structured activities in accordance with the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and with our own standards of good childcare practice.

All our meals are prepared freshly on the premises by our qualified cook and provide a balanced nutritional healthy diet for all children with the babies receiving their first pureed fruit and vegetable solid foods when they are ready to do so.

Happy Jays is open from 7.30am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday. We are open all year round excluding bank and public holidays.
