What should I look for when choosing a nursery?

Some parents have done some research before they come to look round our nursery or have used a nursery previously and therefore know what they are looking for. For others it will all be new and probably quite daunting. As a starter we would suggest you look for and ask the following:

  • Do the children look happy and busy?
  • Do the staff look happy and busy and are they interacting with the children at their level?
  • Do the premises look safe, secure, clean and well equipped?
  • Are there outside play areas for children?
  • Where can children sleep and rest?
  • Does the nursery provide food for the children?
  • How does the nursery involve parents in the care and education of the children?
  • Does the nursery provide staff with regular training opportunities?
  • What is included in the price and what will you be expected to provide?
  • Do you know anyone else who uses the nursery? If so, what do they say about it?
